THE PACKAGING BOX

In the Chinese legend, the mother of the king of the gods holds a birthday banquet every year where all gods will be given a peach put in a brocade box, meaning living a long life. People get inspired by this legend and have developed a tradition of putting their treasures into brocade boxes. In Ming Dynasty, in the places south of Yangtze River, making poems was very popular among scholars. Therefore, many of them became government officials by scoring high marks in the Imperial Examination. The examination results would be sent to them in a brocade box by local officials symbolic of great honor. Since then, Chinese people have put their precious paintings and books into brocade boxes to demonstrate their scholarly tradition.
